The Festival celebration of Lhasa

In the holy Lhasa, the most exciting is the numerous mysterious traditional national holiday in one year. There is one or two festivals in nearly each month. Some of these holidays are engaged for traditional reason; Some are established for the religious reason; Others are developed gradually from some customs. They formed Tibetan culture and holiday system including the sacrificial offering, the farming, the memento, and the public relations and so on.

>>Snow festival
It is one of the biggest festivals in Tibet lasting from the lunar July 1st to the 5th in Lhasa. Snow festival is a traditional holiday meaning Ą°soured milk banquet.Ąą After the monk made ascetic practices, his family member takes along the cheese and welcomes him by dancing. From the seventeenth century, artists from places or schools gather at Lhasa and perform Tibetan opera. At the same time, the ZeFeng Buddhist temple holds the exhibition of Buddha ceremony once a year.

It is a day sending the old year and greeting the new life. At the eve of the New Year, people hold the ceremony of driving the ghost and eat the bread signifying perfect. At the morning of the New Year's Day, people respect the Tibetan liquor and the QieMa mutually, wish everything in the new year is good. The celebrating actions of the Tibetan New Year continue from the lunar first day to .tenth day. The main activity such as pilgriming Buddha, ChuanZhao Buddhist meeting and so on concentrate in Dashao Temple. But it is also the slack season of traveling in Tibet. According to the tradition, the air plane will stop services for fifteen days, the stores either do not offer service.

It is handed down that Buddha was born, became enlightened, and died at the same day, i.e., in April 15th. Therefore in Tibet, April the 15th is a unique day.In this month many kinds of activity will be hold to commemorate. In that day, nearly all the people of Lhasa go out of home. They centered the outer wall of Dashao Temple and Potala Palace and prey. The entire Lhasa is full of gas of setting on the perfume. You can see adherent who walk quick or slow or knock on three main Zhuanjing road.In a word, Sagadawa festival is the most characteristic holiday.
